A Purrfect Ending
By Misty Arensdorf

Once there was a family of four, Mom, Dad and two boys. They opened their hearts and home to two dogs, an outside cat and two birds.

One day the youngest boy and his Dad were outside playing when the little boy said, "Hey,there's a kitty!" Sure enough, a tiny peach and white kitten had wandered into the yard.

"Can we keep him?", pleaded the little boy.

"Oh,I think we have too many pets already," said the Dad. But in the end the big softy gave in.

When the Mom came home she said, "The poor little thing looks half starved, I think we better take him to the vet." So they did .

The kitten stole his way into their hearts because he was so tiny and helpless. The Mom tried to find his momma cat but to no avail. Mom, herself, was pregnant and didn't really want to have to take care of yet another pet. The kitten decided that Mom was his Mom too. He slept with her, talked to her and kept her company. All was well until one day the two boys played a little too rough. The kitten ran under the couch to get away from them. The boys rolled the couch to get him back. That's when it happened.

A mew of pain brought the Dad running. He picked up the limp body and carried it outside to where the mom was hanging clothes. "Oh, my little Purrpurr!" cried the Mom.

Tears falling she examined him. Blood dripped from his tiny mouth. "I think he's broken inside." The Mom held and talked to the kitty, but he didn't respond. She told him it was ok to die. She didn't want him in pain.

The Dad started digging a hole in the yard. He found a box and an old towel. With tears in his eyes and a catch in his throat he asked his wife for the kitten. Crying and shaking she handed him over. She went into the house and told the boys their kitten was dead.

A few minutes later the Dad burst into the house with a big smile on his face. "He's ok! I set him down on the ground while I finished digging and when I turned around, he was trying to stand up!"

Oh the joy that filled the house that day!

Everyone crowded around to touch the kitty and to make sure he was really alright.

The Mom thought to herself "He must have been in shock. We gave up to soon. Thank you,God, for giving him; and us a second chance."

The kitty grew up to be a handsome and ultra-friendly cat. He was such a loving cat that he even liked babies. He purred so loud, and so much, the family named him Jaspurr.

Jaspurr is still a part of our family, which has grown by one more boy. Jaspurr loves our kids, thinks he's a dog and just wishes he could play with our parrots. He turned a bird lover into a cat liker.

He's my little boy.
